Sound Stopped working

Reported Problems: After playing a game the sound stopped working and it didn’t come back after rebooting.

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: Sound driver appeared normal but no audio coming from speakers.

Resolution: Had user check basic connections. Deleted sound card driver and rebooted computer. Sound was re-installed and started working again.

Length of Call: 24 minutes

Cost of Service: $24.00

Purchased software still not licensed

Reported Problems: Customer purchased a utility program online but it is still asking him to register and buy the software

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: The software was installed and working, but not registered.

Resolution: Opened the customers email and searched for email from the software manufacturer. Found the registration code in the email and copied it to the clipboard. Opened the software and registered the software for the customer. Ran the software to make sure it was fully activated. Problem fixed

Getting Error on GMail

Reported Problems: When customer tries to send email through the GMail interface, it asks if you want to send the mail with no body, even though body text has been entered.

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: Advanced web interface not working properly.

Resolution: Switched the account to HTML mode and then it worked properly. Customer also had no virus scanner installed, so Avira free antivirus was downloaded and installed for them.

Audio Not Working

Reported Problems: After computer repair there is no audio from speakers

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: Audio device drivers not installed, so audio is not working.

Resolution: Check PCI codes to find the correct audio drivers. Transfer driver install to customer’s computer. Install audio drivers. Reboot computer. Confirmed audio is now working.

Cost of Service: $25.00

Computer won’t shutdown

Reported Problems: Every time the computer is shutdown it says that it is installing updates, but it never finishes and the computer won’t shutdown.

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: The problem was confirmed.

Resolution: Installed free malware scanning software. Scans revealed over 200 problems with malware on the computer. Cleaned the computer so that it was free of malware and viruses.  Rebooted several times to repeat scans.
Installed free cleaning tools.
Cleaned temporary files, scanned registry for problems.
Shutdown problem cleared after computer was clean.

Length of Call: 120 minutes (2 hours)

Cost of Service: $90.00 (no extra fees after 90 minutes)

Taskbar moved to side of monitor

Reported Problems: The taskbar has moved so that it is running up the right side of the screen. Can’t seem to move it back.

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: The taskbar was indeed in on the right side of the screen.

Resolution: Grabbed the taskbar and moved it down. Helped the customer setup the taskbar the way they wanted it to be.

Length of Call: 10 minutes

Cost of Service: $10.00

Network Printer Configuration

Reported Problems: Can’t seem to set up sharing to a networked printer on a wireless network at home.

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: Connected to two home computers at the same time to investigate printer sharing issue. Printer would not connect when using normal sharing options.

Resolution: Installed local printer for the model listed, then connected that printer to the remote shared printer manually.

Length of Call: 22 minutes

Cost of Service: $22.00

Email not working

Reported Problems: Email not working properly. Messages not being sent and no new email showing up in inbox.

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: Customer using Outlook Express. Checked mail files for size. Found that the Inbox was at the maximum size allowed.

Resolution: Fixed problem by moving mail from inbox to archive folder. Then resetting the inbox to minimum size. Email working normally now.

Length of Call: 42 minutes

Cost of Service: $42.00

XP Taskbar Problem

Reported Problems: Computer doesn’t show any running programs in the task bar. Have to use Alt=Tab to switch programs  and I can’t tell what’s running.

Successful Remote Connection: Yes

Findings: Reported problem was confirmed. Scans revealed no viruses or malware

Resolution: Applied registry patch to fix the problem. Rebooted the computer. Running programs returned to the task bar. Fix complete.
